STELLA FELLAS UNITE! HELP US RAISE THE BAR ON WOMEN’S RIGHTS THIS MARCH.
WHat does it mean to be a STELLA FELLA?
Being a Stella Fella is a choice. It is a choice to act and be the best version of yourself.
We all make mistakes, that is human nature. But making the choice to live with integrity, show compassion and demonstrate respect for both yourself and others…that is what being a Stella Fella is all about.
It is also about action. Through our silence we enable and normalise behaviours that we know to be disrespectful, derogatory or undignified. A Stella Fella is not afraid to stand up and speak out against physical, emotional and psychological abuse and exploitation of our most vulnerable.
The campaign calls on all people, but men and boys in particular, to recognise that it is only by backing your beliefs with action (and encouraging those around you to do the same), that we will start to see real change.
WHY IS THIS MOVEMENT SO IMPORTANT?
The overriding factor in the proliferation of sexual exploitation and trafficking of women and children is the fundamental belief that their lives are expendable or less valuable than that of a man. If we are to succeed in changing these beliefs, we need to start early and we need to understand what leads some men to marginalise, use or abuse women and children.
Whilst men are often the biggest perpetrators of sexual violence against women and children, they are also the key to the solution and it starts with the next generation.
By engaging in conversation and educating boys about the issues, we create opportunities for our youth to lead the change; deciding for themselves what is, and what is not acceptable behaviour. For this reason, we will placing more energy into fostering relationships with schools in 2019 in particular.
This movement is not just about talking to school kids and it’s not just about ending sex trafficking. Our scope is much broader than that. If recent movements like #metoo and #timesup have taught us anything, it is that our actions have consequences no matter who you are or where you have come from.
This campaign is about creating opportunities for a positive exchange of ideas and inspiring action.
When you SEE something or HEAR something - DO something. Don’t let your silence signal an acceptance of poor behaviour.
